Professor Dr. Margret Wintermantel is the new President of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK). Wintermantel, a professor of social psychology and President of Saarland University, was elected President by the HRK Plenary Assembly in March 2006. She is the first woman to head the HRK, the body representing higher education institutions in Germany. Among her future priorities, Wintermantel counts the reform of federalism. In addition, she wants to see higher education institutions make a greater effort to develop common standards for quality assurance in research and teaching.
