The Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF), which takes place in Munich from the 15th - 19th July 2006, offers a platform for European science and interdisciplinary dialogue. Around 2,500 academics, science journalists, politicians and students are going to discuss a wide range of topics in science and the arts. Euroscience, a scientific organisation which aims to support the development of the European Research Area, acts as the initiator of the congress. Currently, it has approximately 2,100 members from 40 countries. The organisers on the German side are the Robert Bosch Foundation, the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Science and Humanities in Germany and "Wissenschaft im Dialog" (Science in Dialogue).
In addition to workshops and lectures, science cafés, a science festival and an exhibition with presentations by institutions closely related to science are planned.
Thematic focal points include: "Earth and Environment", "Combining Cultures" and "Science and Society". The Humboldt Foundation is running a seminar on developing networks of junior scientists and scholars and the corresponding fellowship programmes. The aim is to promote international mobility among young researchers and offer them guidance given the large number of funding options.
